Leading the First Shot of China’s Top Four A-Class Auto Shows, Chengdu Motor Show 2020 to Grandly Open in July

2020-7-16

Chengdu Motor Show 2020 (CDMS) takes the lead this year by lifting curtains for top four A-Class auto shows in China with an aim of stabilizing the development of auto industry, stimulating auto consumption and reinvigorating market confidence. This year’s show will be held in Western China International Expo City from July 24 to August 2 with more than 120 renowned auto brands and more than 1,500 vehicles, occupying a total display area of 180,000 sqm.

The CDMS has become the most attractive wind indicator for central and western automobile market after more than 20 years of development. As the first top four A-class passenger vehicle show to be kicked off this year after the strike of COVID-19, CDMS 2020 assumes crucial missions to driving automotive recovery, boosting market confidence and enlarging domestic consumption. With the government gradually relaxing restrictions and introducing measures to stimulate consumption, the automobile industry is ushering in a robust recovery, claimed by the organizer. German, American, French, Japanese and South Korean automakers, as well as joint ventures and self-owned brands all praise this CDMS as an opportunity to warm up the auto market by launching global or Chinese premiere with a grand ambition to set a trend of upgrading the automobile industry in the second half of 2020.

First A-Class auto show after COVID-19, major brands all invest
The gradual increase in automobile sales is driven by policies issued by the central and local governments to stabilize and boost auto consumption on the situation that the prevention of domestic epidemic is basically stable. According to the statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM), sales of passenger vehicles in April decreased by 2.6% but picked up by 7% in May on year-on-year basis. It is fair to say that demand of vehicle purchase and replacement remains high and this potential keeps being released after the epidemic.

As early as the beginning of April when the domestic epidemic was still an unclear picture, the organizing committee of CDMS took a long-term view and was firmly optimistic about the potential market and room for growth of the domestic automotive industry after the epidemic, decided to set the CDMS 2020 in July, quite a strategic move, instead of September in order to open a golden window for major brands to effectively seize long-term market opportunities and cope with the impact of the epidemic.

Thanks to the tailwind of an upward consumption trend in China, CDMS 2020 will inject more vitality into the auto market. Major brands hope to make full use of the important strategic position and driving force of CDMS to reawaken the sluggish market in the first half of this year and enhance confidence. BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, FAW-Volkswagen, LYNK&CO, Nissan, Geely, SGMW, BYD and other originally participating brands have increased their input into this year’s show by expanding exhibition area and displaying more magnificent models. Great Wall will make a global premiere of its first WEY heavy SUV, HAVAL H6 of the third generation and a brand-new SUV of HAVAL Hound on media day. BYD will launch the world's first Song Plus and start a global pre-sale of Tang 2021. Due to the active participation of major brands, the organizer expects CDMS 2020 will make a contribution to the recovery of Chinese auto market in the second half of this year that is expected to exceed or maintain the growth in the same period last year.

New energy vehicle witness to a new generation
Entering in the racing lane of new energy vehicles, major auto brands have increased their R&D effort and investment in electrification and accelerated the transformation towards a motorized, intelligent and shared future for automobiles based on the Internet. The government report this year mentioned new energy vehicles in pair with the new infrastructure for the first time, emphasizing the importance to strengthen the construction of new infrastructure, build more charging piles and promote new energy vehicles. The biggest pain point of inconvenient charging of new energy vehicle is to be addressed against this background, which will provide a reassuring pill for the marketing and consumption of new energy vehicles in the future.

The broad new energy vehicle market in West China has attracted “new powers of car manufacturing” such as Tesla, Polestar, NIO, Xpeng, Weltmeister, AIWAYS and SERES, together with NEV brands from conventional auto businesses that will make multiple global debuts of brand-new smart vehicles during CDMS 2020. Polestar will make its first appearance in the CDMS with its brand-new mass-produced pure electric Polestar 2 and hybrid GT Polestar 1 of high-performance. AIWAYS will make a global debut of its U6 ion. And the NEV brand ORA of Great Wall will release its ORA White Cat for the first time.

CDMS filled with luxury cars and international bigwigs
Latest statistics from CPCA show that retail of luxury cars in May increased by 28% on year-on-year basis, a testimony to the strong position of luxury cars in domestic passenger vehicle market. As the first A-Class auto show after the epidemic, Super-luxury brands such as Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and luxury brands of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus, Volvo and Cadillac will continue riding waves at CDMS 2020, igniting passion in the vehicle market for the second half of 2020.

Once again, BMW tops all exhibitors for its super large booth covering 3,210 sqm and will present its new 4 Series and Mini Countryman. Audi will show up with a large booth of 3,000 sqm for the first time in CDMS. Mercedes-Benz will blow your mind by releasing 7 new models including CLA Shooting Brake and brand-new GLA in an area of nearly 3,000 sqm. Against all uncertainties and odds, the three leading German brands stand solidly like mountains, fully demonstrating their grand demeanour lasting for hundreds of years. It is worth mentioning that Maserati's first hybrid vehicle Ghibli, Lamborghini Urus High Gloss Line, and Bentley's new Bentayga will all meet the public for the first time during the show.

More online and offline concurrent events
Guided by the Auto Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the CDMS organizing committee joins hands with Automotive Observer to organize the China Automotive Pioneer Forum under the theme of “Over the Mountain” during the same period. Representatives from the government and industrial organizations, automotive business leaders, experts and scholars, KOLs and design masters will get together to discuss development and opportunities for the auto industry after the epidemic. With perspectives, wisdom and inspiration, it is bound to open a new future for automotive industry.

Nowadays, the test drive experience has become a key factor when customers consider purchasing a vehicle. CDMS 2020 will still set up the outdoor test drive area and fully optimize configurations and participation procedures. The organizer will invite more brands to participate and provide better on-site experience that more visitors could directly test drive new and mainstream auto models.

In order to let the visitors have a cloud and virtual experience of visiting the show without going out, CDMS 2020 establishes a platform of online exhibition for the first time. Contents of the show are integrated and presented online with the help of intelligent algorithms to accurately match visitors, purchasing demands and preferences. This helps potential buyers to choose the favorite brand and model, an O2O interaction for real.

Multi-tiered Covid-19 Prevention Measures for a Safe Auto Show
