To actively respond to the strategic positioning of building Chengdu into an international consumption-based city, implement the development strategy of “three cities and three capitals” and cater to the development needs under the new era, Chengdu Motor Show, as a resounding business card of the city, will be held at Western China International Expo City in Tianfu New Area, Chengdu this year. The brand-new venue will promote this year’s show to present visitors with a new look.
Major brands to invest the show
Boosted by China’s Belt and Road, Chengdu, as the strategic intersection of the trade route of Belt and Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt has ranked the first among new first-tier cities, with its GDP ranking eighth in the country and its automobile market showing full resilience in the unfavorable market environment. In 2018, China's auto market recorded its first negative growth in nearly 30 years, but the sales of auto market in Chengdu remained the top among cities in western China.
Over the years, Chengdu Motor Show has been a frontier highland for major brands to explore the western market. The decline in auto sales also lifted Chengdu Motor Show to a higher strategic position. In order to achieve a good sales performance in forthcoming “Golden September and Silver October” this year, many automobile brands have continued to increase their investment in CDMS 2019. Covering 11 exhibition halls and some outdoor exhibition areas, the total scale of the show increased by 30% over the last year, hitting a new high. Original participating brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus, Great Wall, BAIC, Hongqi, SGMW greatly enlarge their exhibition booths with multiple models and innovative technologies.
“New Energy” sector to display a new future for cars
Due to the decrease in subsidies, the sales of new energy vehicles in July went down than before. However, benefiting from the transformation and upgrading of the auto industry to motorization, intellectualization, networking and sharing, China’s new energy vehicles still enjoy huge potential for development. It’s worth mentioning that the “new powers of car manufacturing” --- NIO, Xiaopeng Motors, AIWAYS AUTO and SERES will debut at the “New Energy Vehicle Zone”. Weltmeister and Qiantu will also showcase their innovative concepts to millions of car fans in southwestern China, setting off an upsurge in new energy vehicle market.
Moreover, Renault City K-ZE, the first pure electric model of Dongfeng Renault will be released for the first time. SAIC Volkswagen will present its newly-launched first pure electric model -- e-Lavida. New energy car brands ORA of Great Wall and Geometry of Geely will also be displayed.
Luxury cars sparkle the show
The luxury car market performed well throughout the downturn in 2019, recording a total sales volume of 1.4million in the first half of 2019, a growth of 7.2% year on year. At CDMS 2019, super luxury brands such as Maserati, Porsche, McLaren, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls-Royce and luxury brands including BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Lexus, Volvo and Cadillac will bring their lineups and ignite the fervor of the most exciting luxury auto show in western China.
BMW takes a lead and occupies super-large booths with an area exceeding 3,000 sqm, ranking first in terms of booth area this year; Mercedes Benz and Audi will also show up with a large booth area of nearly 3,000 sqm, to manifest their centurial development achievements together with BMW as three leading German auto enterprises. Lamborghini will display the Huracan GT3 Daytona edition for the first time in China. The show will also embrace the new launch of Lexus RX, as well as the first participation of British luxury car brand -- Lotus Cars and California’s brand -- Karma.
