2019-9-14
Chengdu Motor Show 2019 (CDMS 2019) successfully concluded on September 14 at the Western China International Expo City. As one of the top four A-class auto shows in China, CDMS 2019 is still the main field for the premiere of new models in western China. This year’s show displayed a new look with a total display area of 200,000 sqm, attracting 1,600 vehicles from over 130 auto brands. On Press Day, 80 new vehicles made their premiere on nearly 60 press conferences, including 28 of global premiere and 41 of domestic premiere. CDMS, a “Golden Engine” helps build an international consumption-oriented city
As CDMS is the “barometer” of China’s auto market, sales volume at CDMS has become one of the important bases for measuring the consumption trend of Chengdu, which has both stimulated urban consumption, and served as a tipping point for increasing economic vitality. Based on the auto orders generated this year, we can still see the trend of consumption upgrading.
Although the Chinese auto market witnessed the first negative growth last year during the past 30 years, sales volume of Chengdu auto market still ranks first among western cities of China. At CDMS 2019, many auto brands made heavy investment to create a feast for the car market. The three leading German brands BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi took a dominant position in terms of the booth area. BMW had a huge booth of over 3,000 sqm for the first time, ranking top this year; Mercedes Benz and Audi also appeared in super-large booths with an area of nearly 3,000 sqm respectively. The three major German brands have fully demonstrated their century-old style.
BMW 7 Series Cadenza Custom Limited Edition special for China made its global premier-show, and the new 8 Series Gran Coupé First Edition and a number of X Series models of limited edition appeared at the show. A number of models at first release and already launched of Mercedes-Benz were also on display, including GLS SUV making its premiere in China, as well as the generation 1886 limited edition of EQC 400 4MATIC pure SUV, a new generation of long-wheelbase GLC SUV, Collector’s Edition of S-Class sedan, B-Class Sports Tourer, the new AMG A 35 L 4MATIC and its Special Edition. Audi Q8 announced the official pre-sale. Besides releasing or displaying their latest models, luxury auto brands also brought their entry-level products with lower prices to keep up with the development trend of younger consumer demand.
Moreover, various auto enterprises companies competed to make the layout by bringing many products related to intelligence, networking, electrification and sharing. The new RX and RX 450hL extended edition of Lexus achieved breakthroughs in intelligent human-computer interactions and brought more intelligent and human-friendly auto experiences for users. CS75PLUS of Chang’an Auto equipped with the remote valet parking system APA5.0, made its global premiere. F7 2020 of Haval also made its debut, which specifically upgraded the intelligent networking system, and added the L2 automatic driving system and “AI Intelligent” auxiliary system. The latest “Shepherd” safety system of WEY began to be installed on the new models gradually.
It is worth mentioning that Jetta VS5 and VS7, new RAV4 of FAW Toyota, Geely Bo Yue pro, 4008PHEV of Peugeot and other brands “Made with Chengdu Quality” all made their appearance.
Luxury cars competing in Chengdu
Since last year, Chinese auto market has entered a downward channel, but the sales volume of medium and high-end luxury autos have risen against this trend. In particular, the southwestern auto market has become the largest domestic market by maintaining a relatively fast growth in the period of downturn and posting constant increases in market share since 2019. Therefore, many luxury auto brands are paying increasingly higher attention to CDMS.
This year, super luxury brands such as Maserati, Porsche, McLaren, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce created a hot wave with their new auto power. The new Lincoln Aviator was officially launched; Maserati brought three models of global limited edition: Quattroporte Imperial Blue, Levante Imperial Blue and Ghibli diamond black. The special edition of Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Daytona made its premiere in China. Rolls-Royce brought the world’s only 50 units of GHOST Zenith in collector’s edition, which was unveiled together with the other three luxury customized models.
The battle in new energy vehicle is on the verge of breaking out
In the face of “new blue ocean strategy”, traditional auto enterprises are also making gradual efforts in the new energy field. At CDMS 2019, Mercedes Benz showcased its first domestic pure electric medium-sized luxury SUV: The new EQC pure electric SUV. Audi launched the first pure electric SUV in China: Q2L e-tron. The first pure electric vehicle model of e-Lavida launched by SAIC Volkswagen made its appearance; Dongfeng Renault launched the first pure electric model Renault City K-ZE; the first electric vehicle iA5 of GAC Toyota was officially launched; Geometry under Geely brought its first new energy model Geometry A, and Geely Lynk&Co also joined hands with the “Lynk&Co 03PHEV” to make a different appearance; BAIC New Energy brought its EU5 R600; in addition, the pure electric vehicle of Beijing Hyundai Encino also came to the show.
The new powers of car manufacturing such as NIO, Weltmeister, Qiantu, ENOVATE, AIWAYS AUTO and SERES gathered at CDMS 2019. Thanks to the equipped Internet of Things and AI technology, these new energy vehicles can meet almost all needs. According to the head of Weltmeister, its global R&D headquarters was settled in Chengdu. The brain of its latest model on display was made by Chengdu engineers, and its core three-electric technology motor, electronic control and battery, as well as its automatic driving are all completed under the R&D by Chengdu engineers.
Next year, CDMS will meet you again in the Western China International Expo City to celebrate the auto market feast. With constant efforts in improving quality and building its unique characteristics, CDMS will present an international auto show with better quality!
