2021-8-25
As a platform for debuts of domestic and overseas automobiles in the Western China and a barometer for domestic auto market, the Chengdu Motor Show 2021 (CDMS 2021) is to be held from 29 August to 7 September in Western China International Expo City. More than 130 renowned auto brands from Germany, USA, France, Japan, and South Korea, together with joint ventures and self-owned brands will display 1,600 vehicles on a total area of 200,000 sqm.
2021 is the first year of the 14th Five Year Plan and lights up the road for the development of China’s auto industry in the next five years. The auto market in China will make its rebound by the end of 2021 thanks to the stable macro-economy, multi-pronged measures stimulating and unleashing demands, and fully-blooming segmented markets.
Compared with last year, CDMS 2021 has achieved quantitative improvement in scale, the number of new cars, as well as cross-industry cooperation and concurrent activities. The organizer indicates that CDMS 2021 will not only boost domestic auto market, but also guarantee that exhibitors could smoothly execute their strategic plans on this platform.
New Market Opportunities Arising from Shorter Vehicle Upgrade Cycles
The Chinese market of passenger cars has entered a diversified and individualized development stage thanks to Chinese consumers’ rising standards on car quality and diversified demands. As a result, auto producers in maintaining their competitive advantages have striven to adapt to clients’ demands and accelerated the upgrading and replacing cycle of automobiles. This is why CDMS held once every year with blockbusting autos launched on site helps auto companies seize more opportunities.
Nearly 60 press conferences will be held at CDMS 2021 together with debuts of star models. The organizer emphasizes that in spite of pandemic-induced impacts on the auto market, the pace for auto upgrading actually speeds up. According to market feedback, the cycle for the development of a brand-new model has been shortened from around 4 years to 1-3 years, and for modification, from 6-24 months to 4-15 months. The faster upgrading and replacement of auto model plus demands of continuous upgrading and modification create market for the auto industry.
At CDMS 2021, all sorts of super-luxurious, luxurious and high-end brands plan to release their latest models to tap market potential for the second half of 2021. Among them, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi will bring the new BMW X3, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the new Audi Q2L and other domestic debuts respectively. Jaguar Land Rover will bring six new domestic debut vehicles. Lincoln will bring two limited-edition models, the Aviator MONO and the Adventurer MONO, and LUMMA will make its world debut with the CLR RS.
New Energy Vehicle Playing a Major Role
When auto companies are transforming themselves to be intelligent and electrified while being connected to the Internet and for sharing, New Energy Vehicle (NEV) are playing a major role. Unprecedented development opportunities are revealed for China’s NEV industry supported by multi-pronged positive policies. In the first half of 2021, the NEV market registered high-speed growth driven by new products and for the second half, it will continue its strong growth momentum. At CDMS, the proportion of NEV exhibitors is rising continuously, further expanding on the basis of last year’s one hall and reaching a new record high. NEV can be seen in every exhibition hall, especially Hall 10, the base camp of NEV brands at this year’s show.
In this racing lane, new powers of auto manufacturing including NIO, Xpeng, ONE, IM, Polestar, HiPhi, ARCFOX, YOVAH, ZEEKR, R, Hozon, Weltmeister, ORA, SERES, Leapmotor, Hycan and NEV brands from conventional auto companies gather together for the first time on a large scale to land in the western market.

The Rise of Chinese Auto Brands
Owing to dampened demands and the pandemic in 2020, sales for self-owned brands once dropped to the lowest point. However, it started to recover in 2021 thanks to continuous improvement in product competitiveness and thus has served as the strongest power for overall growth in the first half of 2021. The “Rise of Chinese Auto Brands” will be staged at CDMS 2021. Haval/POER will hold a joint press conference, and the Haval H9 will be opened for pre-sale on site. Tank will make the world's premiere of two brand-new blockbuster models, a high-end luxury off-road SUV, and a hardcore mecha-style off-road SUV. This is tank brand's another dazzling appearance since its independence in April this year. WEY will launch a new generation of smart hybrid SUV Macchiato, which will accelerate from 0-60km/h in only 4.1s.
Under the surging of "Guochao", CDMS 2021 not only welcomes many Chinese leading auto brands, but also becomes the first A- class auto show whose atmosphere is dyed with the Guochao style, leading the fashion for the auto industry in an era of new consumption.
Auto Company + Internet, a Future Led by Smart Cars
Internet giants spot unlimited possibilities in cooperating with conventional auto companies when automobiles are becoming electrified, intelligent and Internet-based for sharing. Cross-industry collaboration has become a new normal in the development of auto industry. Traces of auto companies joining hands with Internet partners in creating smart travel plans and solutions could be found at CDMS.
In this new stage for auto development, cars are no longer a tool for travel, but an “intelligent storm” that redefines people’s life. The cooperation between auto and Internet companies will definitely expedite the development of smart cars, presenting a critical opportunity in an era of intelligent connection with the Internet.
More Cross-Border Concurrent Events
Aiming at creating a professional show for the auto industry, CDMS 2021 plans to organize high-end forums, summits and professional industrial events under selected cutting-edge topics so as to discuss the future of automobiles. In order to boost the city's economic development and drive consumers' enthusiasm for purchasing cars, a "car-purchase prize/lottery" activity will be held for consumers with car purchasing needs. At the same time, this year's newly adopted fully-immersive test driving and riding based on smart service design enables immersive and smart driving experience on site, as well as the integrated observation and emulation of smart participatory learning.
Stricter Pandemic Prevention for a Safe Auto Show
Considering domestic and overseas epidemic situation, CDMS 2021 introduces a set of stricter prevention and control measures to keep up with the normalized anti-pandemic control. In line with national, provincial and municipal requirements of pandemic prevention, CDMS 2021 stringently complies with 10 Measures for Normalized Epidemic Prevention: prohibiting personnel from medium-to-high risks areas coming to Chengdu to participate; introducing real name authentication about health information; measuring body temperatures, disinfecting hands, checking temperatures by infrared ray, sterilizing the venue and restricting peak flows, so as to guarantee safe and comfortable experience for exhibitors, visitors and media.
